What wisdom can you find that is greater than kindness? – Jean-Jacques Rousseau
The Story
"I used to be afraid of failing at something that really mattered to me, but now I'm more afraid of succeeding at things that don't matter." - Bob Goff
When I finally figured out the meaning of life, that meant I had to do something.
I looked for the meaning in school, and became an honor student. That wasn't the answer.
I looked for the meaning in work, and worked 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. That wasn't the answer.
I looked for the meaning in titles, and became a small company executive. That wasn't the answer.
I looked for the meaning in self, read self-help books, earned respect, protected the ego. That wasn't it.
I looked for the meaning in things, focused on comfort, bought a house, cars, electronics. That wasn't it.
I looked for the meaning in money, made good income, saved for retirement. That wasn't the answer.
I looked for the meaning in success, ran small businesses and startups. That wasn't the answer.
I looked for the meaning in relationships, and have a happily ever after marriage. That wasn't the answer.
I looked for the meaning in children, and have kids who perform in school, the arts and sports. That wasn't it.
I looked for the meaning in friends, and have friends all over the world, young and old. That wasn't the answer.
I looked for the meaning in experiences, flew a plane, traveled the world, tried food cultures. That wasn't it.
I looked for the meaning in health, went on a plant-based diet, exercised daily. That wasn't the answer.
I looked for the meaning in nature, went camping & hiking, drove an electric car, ran on solar. That wasn't it.
I looked for the meaning in religion, studied the world religions, spirituality and atheism. That wasn't the answer.
I looked for the meaning in charity, donated money, volunteered time, funded scholarships. That wasn't enough.
So what is the answer? God is love, we are all His children, and He doesn't want anyone to perish. Our souls long for God, and we will never be satisfied until we are back in His presence. So we are here to help each other build a relationship and get closer to God. This does not mean someone needs to be of a certain faith. It means the person has found God's love and peace, helps other people find the same, and becomes God's channel of love while on earth.
Love of others is the answer to the world's troubles. Unfortunately, love is often associated with romantic love, and love is hard to package into a mobile app. Instead of love, we focused on a simpler component of love which is kindness. The hope is that the habit of kindness will turn into love of others. There are many great kindness organizations and websites out there, but we haven't found a good Acts of Kindess app. BeKind was born.
Let's make the world a kinder place. Perform daily acts and make kindness the norm. If we all start caring more for each other, we will start to heal our society, our planet, and ourselves.
